First of all, I will describe the summarize these world challenges. Today in 2009, even if we improved in comparison to the previous decades, we still don't know or want to change what need to be changed. 28 conflicts are taking place in the world. 1 person out of five is poor. 2.5 billions people don't have access to proper sanitation facilities. We are consuming Earth. Diseases such as malaria, HIV, cancer still kill people; not to mention issues related to education, development, women, agriculture, debt, trade and investment, children, governance. In conclusion, we are facing a list of global issues and we are 6.8 billions people with the potential to address them.
Now, that we all know the 2 variables: list of global issues and people living on earth, I will present the classification theory. Human beings can be classified in 3 categories according their behaviors and impacts on world challenges.
-NOT SURVIVING: this category is composed by persons who cannot survive because of existing external factors who prevent them to do so. These people cannot fulfill entirely the first or second level in Maslow's hierarchy of needs and have a life expectancy very limited.
-SURVIVING: thanks to human progress and globalization, this category represents people that are able to survive on Earth. The number of persons who belong to this category is huge. A majority of them lives in industrialized and emerging countries. They live in individualist-focused society where everybody must work to get a wage and so consume what they need and what they perceived to need. Even if they can survive, they are unfortunately not helping the first category to survive.
- HELPING: this category is composed by a small number of human beings who seek the need to address world issues and so help people who belong to the first category. They are AID workers, some government people, philanthropist, social entrepreneurs, and others. They can impact the world in a recommended active or a passive way.
After analyzing the classification theory, I personally think that the third category should of course focus on the first category which mean helping to solve global issues, but also make people from the second category jump into the third one. Please don't look this post as a criticism of the human being, but as a reflection on how we could be categorized using certain specific criteria.
